System Mechanic is an optimizer developed by iolo technologies, LLC, which is a privately held American software company headquartered in Los Angeles. The program can repair, optimize and protect Windows PCs against threats. There are quite a few users of it, and many of them have encountered problems during its removal.
So I’m writing this page to provide solutions and advises that you might want to take, just don’t miss any chance to acquire some useful information, and see what you need to do to completely remove System Mechanic in Windows.
Method 1: Remove System Mechanic with A Safe Tool
This is a small-sized professional Windows cleaning utility to easily remove Classic Shell. With this utility you don’t need to access this and that. Steps are simply as follows:
1. Click on the green download button here or visit the homepage to try out Max Uninstaller.
(When installing something, whatever the program is, I suggest putting on any other hard drives instead of the C: drive (system drive). Then when you have to re-install the system, things you previously installed would still be there, and you only need to repair their registry entries. At the meantime, C: drive space can be saved for better running performance.)
2. Double-click the desktop icon to open it, you will know what programs are currently installed on your PC. Find and select the System Mechanic icon, and press Run Analysis to scan all the related files.
(The tool will finish scanning the files of targeted program within a few seconds.)
3. In the list presented, tick all the items displayed belonging to the toolbar, and hit the Complete Uninstall button.
(Then it’s time to delete the written registry entries from your system.)
4. A window will show up telling you “Please wait while it initializes the uninstall process.”, after which press Scan Leftovers > and Delete Leftovers at last to completely remove System Mechanic.
(At last, you can click “Back to Step 1” to refresh the programs list, check whether the program has gone. Play the following video demonstration for a quick view of the whole process.)

Method 2: Manually Remove System Mechanic Yourself
Here are possibly all the necessary steps you need to go through in Windows without getting extra help:
1. To smoothly conduct the removal process, you’d better log in the system as an Administrator, so that you won’t be asked for password permission all the way. In most cases we log in Windows as an Administrator at home as the default settings. (How to check for administrator rights in Windows?)
2. Right-click on System Mechanic icon on the System Tray, and select Exit to close the program.
3. Hit Ctrl + Alt + Del to run Task Manager, terminate the program-related processes by selecting it in the Processes tab and clicking End.
4. In the bottom-left screen of your screen, right-click on the Start button and select Control Panel.
5. In the Control Panel window, click the Uninstall a program link.
6. In the list of installed programs, find & double-click System Mechanic to activate its default uninstall wizard.
7. Follow the prompts to proceed with the removal, provide confirmation when it’s needed, then wait for the uninstall wizard to finish its job.
8. Hover your mouse in the bottom-right corner, then you see the charms bar. Click Search, enter “regedit” to open the Registry Editor.
9. On the navigator of the Registry Editor, click File > Export… to create a back-up (.reg file) of the whole Registry in case of any irretrievable mistake. (How to restore the Registry in Windows?)
10. Delete these two folders:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\iolo\
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\iolo\
11. Then on the navigator click Edit > Find…, type “System Mechanic” in the box to check for other possible the related entries/keys, then delete them to completely remove System Mechanic.
12. Reboot your computer to take effect.
